Bionaire Mini Tower Fan Review: Fancy looks and controls – but… Well… Is there much else?
You can probably guess from the tone of the title, that no, there isn’t much else with this Bionaire mini tower fan – and I’ll elaborate below a bit more on that. I have bought the fan on Amazon already in June 2016, but as the fan hasn’t seen much use, I haven’t remembered to review this fan. But now that the heatwave(s) have properly arrived to England, it’s time to review the fan!
The Bionaire Mini Tower fan has:
- 3 Speed Settings (Ineffective, Still Ineffective, Slightly Better than Ineffective)
- 3 Noise Settings (Noisy, Noisier, And Even Noisier)
- Audible Beeps Every Button Press (More Noise!)
- Ioniser
- Digital Display
- Breeze/Sleep Mode
- 8-Hour Timer

Their claim goes like this: “This mini-tower tower gives you a great cooling experience in an attractive, compact design. It will fit perfectly on any desk or table. In addition, the fan has added an independent ioniser, which you can use to freshen the air in your room. It also features 3 speeds, oscillation, an 8-hour timer, and breeze/sleep modes. ”
I can confirm that it’s a very compact design, has a lot of features and controls – and I guess you could say it’s fairly attractive. Additionally, you can definitely put it on most of the desks… But that’s about it. It does not provide a ‘great cooling experience’ because it doesn’t produce much of an airflow. If you look at the pictures; the actual vents where the air comes out from is so tiny, that it’s not able to provide much of an experience at all. I’d best describe the fan to be more effective at producing noise than airflow.
An Ionising Desk Fan (But why!)
For me the concept of wanting to have something on your desk blowing at you, that potentially (assuming the ioniser works well enough) makes all the particles stick to you – is just plain gross. How are you ‘enjoying cleaner air’ if you’re shooting yourself in your own face, or inhaling all the crap that’s flying around in the room – that have just potentially been made stick better to you and your insides? That’ll be a very polite no thanks from me. If you want to enjoy cleaner air, use a a fan with a HEPA filter (Amazon Link).
Please enjoy some pictures of the attractive fan that gives you a great cooling experience *snicker*:
Do I think you should get one?
Absolutely not if you’re looking for:
- Quiet fans for sleeping or quiet fans for bedroom – i.e. a silent fan
- An effective fan that will be able to cool you down
- Air purifying fans. Once again, please use a a fan with a HEPA filter (Amazon Link) instead.
Maybe (sarcastically), if you appreciate the following:
- Fan has lots of buttons and lights, and looks like the long lost cousin of R2D2
- You don’t care that much about the fan cooling you down, as you care about it making noise
- If you’ve ever wanted to find out what kind of ‘health benefits’ sticking ionised particles into your face would have
Seriously though: I’m sure if you can get it for a very cheap price, and if you’re almost deaf or don’t care about the noise, then it’s a pretty reasonable contraption. But ONLY if you can get it dirt cheap and there’s no space to put a bigger or better fan on wherever you’d want it to be placed to. For me it’s just a poorly designed product that’s completely let down by the noise it makes.
