Snug mattress topper – an affordable way to give your mattress a second chance at life, or a complete waste of money?
Note: Pictures taken by myself coming soon. Just don’t have the time to do this just yet. Instead I will post this half-assed review in any case and edit it soon and add pictures. (01/09/2018)
For an unfortunate user of an EU Double IKEA bed like myself, the choices in anything from sheets to mattress toppers are very limited in UK. But after some searching I finally found one (or a few), and actually all the options I found were only on Amazon! No big retailer stocks these European Double 140 cm x 200 cm mattress toppers – as UK proudly uses their own bed sizes instead. So I thought I’d give the Snug mattress topper a go based on their decent Amazon reviews and the fact that it wasn’t that expensive – and that it was actually of the correct size for the bed.

Sleeping Snugly?
The mattress was delivered snugly packed away (sorry, I just had to – at least once) in a box and after you removed the mattress topper from the packaging it expanded a fair bit, just like the new mattresses you can buy online do.
Upon first inspection of the foam material used and having slept on the mattress topper quite a few nights – I can’t say I’m over the moon about it. I failed to replicate the deep hand mark myself shown in their official pictures, even though I tried it a few times. The mattress topper just bounces back like a normal foam topper would.
In other words clearly the biggest annoyance for me is that I would not call the foam used ‘memory foam’ – instead I’d call it normal foam with a bit of gel added to it making the foam a bit denser and seemingly more responsive like memory foam does. But the foam used is still so close to normal foam, that I would not go as far as going it memory foam.
So what does the Snug mattress topper do then?
Added softness, and that’s it. No support nor added ‘snugness’ as you would from true memory foam – so if that’s what you’re after look elsewhere.
Do I think you should get one?
I can see how some people would like the Snug mattress topper, but for the purpose of reviving an old soft mattress that has given up on life – it doesn’t do much other than make the old mattress softer. Sure it might hide the odd spring from poking in your side, but won’t provide any additional support.
The only way I can recommend the Snug mattress topper is if you plan to make your too hard or firm mattress more comfortable for yourself by making it softer. However if you’re under the illusion that getting one of these would make your mattress feel ‘brand new’, you’d be sourly disappointed.
In short: The best way to revive your mattress is to get a new one.
