Hot Sauce Quest – Part 3: Psycho Juice 70% Red Savina

In Hot Sauces

Psycho Juice 70% Red Savina by Dr. Burnörium’s

Consistency and Ingredients

A bit runny again like the other ones in the Triple Pack. Nice deep and red colour, and you can tell right away that there’s a lot of real ingredients (mostly real anyways).

List of Ingredients as on the bottle: (which are exactly the same as on the 70% Habanero bottle and 70% Ghost pepper bottle – only difference being obviously the chilies used)

  • 70% Red Savina Habanero
  • Water
  • Carrot
  • Onion
  • Cane Vinegar
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Lemon Juice
  • Ascorbic Acid
  • Xanthan Gum

Smell

The smell is still very fruity and pleasant like a habanero sauce should be – but in comparison to the previous one this time you can actually smell that it should have a bit more of heat to it as well. And not just the generally nice and fruity flavour of habaneros.

Taste & Burn

A very pleasant taste – but with an actual kick.  The heat comes very pleasantly but quickly and goes almost as quickly as it came. Leaves a nice lingering heat that is not painful at all but you can definitely tell a few minutes after eating a teaspoon of this that you’ve had something hot.

*Second and bigger spoonful*

Now we’re talking! A nice amount of heat that releases a decent amount of endorphins. This will definitely build up to a ‘nice’ sweat if you have this sauce a multiple times in one sitting.

Verdict

Very tasty again and pleasant indeed. It will be still very possible to use too much of this, but with care this sauce should make a nice addition to any chili lovers cupboard. As with the other sauces it’s a bit on the runny side, but still very authentic (apart from the Xanthan Gum for thickness), and a very tasty hot sauce. I do have to say I was expecting the heat on this to kick up a notch after all the packaging says “XX HOT” (Instead of one X) and “Heat Level 9”. If we’re talking 1-10 I’d probably give this a solid 7 on the heat scale, meaning it’s quite hot indeed but still very much enjoyable and it can be used with a lot of foods without being too hot to enjoy.

For complete beginners this is definitely too hot, but for the ‘rest of us’ it’s probably just about right that you could almost use this on daily basis and with most foods.

If I were to describe Psycho Juice 70% Red Savina in one sentence:

A relatively hot and a very tasty sauce.
